Olive Fitpatrick is a sophomore at Ithaca High School who first started swimming with the Ithaca YMCA Barracudas in fourth grade. When asked about a special moment in swimming, she said “the end of a race when you have a good time.” Competitively, Olive swims freestyle, also known as front stroke, and races the 50, 100, and 500 yard freestyle events. She enjoys swimming butterfly stroke during practice, but strongly dislikes breast stroke, simply because she’s had a more difficult time mastering it than others. This fall, the Ithaca High School Girls Varsity Swim and Dive had a great season and sent three athletes to states. Olive swam a larger variety of events and relays this season, and enjoyed meeting the new swimmers on the team. She plans to continue swimming in the future and is considering swimming in college.
