The vile monsters come at night.
Werewolves howl at the moon. Flesh contorts.
Vampires hunt and stalk, safe from the light.
The vile monsters come at night.
Because at night they are the strongest.
(Methought I heard a voice cry.)
At night we are the strongest too.
Sleep’s our shield, a ward against the world.
Sleep is human, pure as fresh morning dew.
As it’s human, sleep is killed too.
(Methought I heard a voice cry “Sleep no more!
Macbeth does murder sleep.
Macbeth does murder sleep.
Macbeth hath murdered sleep.
Macbeth shall sleep no more.”)
You slew my dreams, held me awake.
You murdered my sleep, but kept your own safe.
You’re the vampire, yet my heart’s at stake.
You haunt me ’till I jump awake.
(Still it cried “Sleep no more!”
Macbeth does murder sleep.
Macbeth hath murdered sleep.
You have murdered sleep!
Now I shall sleep no more.)
The vilest monsters come at night.
You watch me sleep, poised to rip through my flesh.
You hunt and stalk, I’m blind without the light.
The vilest monster comes at night.
Because at night I am the weakest.
