The student representatives to the Board of Education are a group of four students elected each year by the IHS populace to represent the student body at board meetings and relay pertinent information back to the school.
The student representatives are currently continuing their investigation of recycling solutions, and hope to have a policy suggestion by next month at the latest. Additionally, they are investigating the district’s discipline policies in light of a recent uptick in vandalism against student campaign posters. Specifically, they are in contact with administration to better understand the IHS restorative justice program and the likely consequences for the perpetrators of the aforementioned defacement. In addition, student representatives are reevaluating the standards based grading system, in light of proposed changes to the appearance of middle school Algebra and Earth Science classes on a student’s transcript.
Lastly, the student representatives have been meeting with members of their constituency during lunch to discuss issues which they feel should be addressed. In order to more effectively tackle the problems facing IHS students, the representatives look forward to collaborating with the newly formed “Collaborative Solutions Committee” in the IHS student council.
If the reader would like to meet with the student representatives during lunch to discuss any policy concern, or to share thoughts about any ongoing project, they should feel free to reach out via email at the addresses provided below.
