It’s winter in September,
Who’s calling my name?
It’s you, it’s me, I long to be
Wild and untamed.
Yet I’m impinged by a tether
To tighten in the cooling weather
I’ll wait one month or two
Is that enough to smell the dew?
It’s winter in September,
The world’s calling my bluff
The ground beneath me is dirtied glue
That hasn’t dried enough.
It sticks to me, can’t wash it off
Fuel is gone, an empty trough
Hollow is unpleasantly
Digging into memories.
It’s winter in September
Yet the sun is shining through
And when snow falls and hits the ground
I’ll feel a shade of blue.
Frost and ice rain on my face
But quickly they’ll evaporate
And fly back up into the sky
Where I can’t go, but I can try.
