I give you this one thought,
And though you knew it not,
I saw you passing by,
Upon a spangled sky.
A trail of colors in your wake,
A painting that no hands could make,
And yet it seems not one ounce worse,
With but my simple, hurried verse.
With beauty do you twirl and spin,
And your long race, I hope you win.
And yet it may just stop and end,
As you pass by, my distant friend.
It is your way, I know with truth,
To find your next big singing booth,
And yet I wish you would stay near,
Or come visit, another year.
I give you one last thought,
I guess this is our lot.
I stand and wave good-bye,
Into your spangled sky.
