The Ithaca Public Education Initiative (IPEI)’s 19th Annual Adult Spelling Bee was held on Sunday, March 5. The event featured 32 spelling teams who went head-to-head for the Fuzzy Bee Trophy. The Spellicans won the Spelling Bee, correctly spelling om·ma·tid·i·um (äməˈtidēəm), a noun that refers to the optical unit that makes up a compound eye, like that of an insect. Around 400 attended the event and raised a remarkable $30,000 for the IPEI teacher grant fund.
Quite a Buzz at the Spelling Bee
