Two IHS seniors swept to victory in a Spikeball tournament during the New York State Mathematics League (NYSML) Competition hosted on April 22, 2023 at IHS. The duo, Lyndon Hess and Lei Cao, represented the school and exhibited excellent teamwork and precision, leaving opponents in awe as they defeated team after team. The pair was continuously challenged by a long line of students from New York City, Stuyvesant High School, Scarsdale High School, and Fayetteville-Manlius High School, yet maintained a winning streak until the end.
The event drew a large crowd of spectators in the quad—nearly 100 people circled around the players to watch the action. Among the audience, an avid supporter and self-proclaimed #1 fan of the IHS duo, Mukund Gaur ’24, exclaimed “Mr. Deppe told us to win, but he didn’t say in what.” The tournament exemplified IHS student talent across all fields, from problem solving and competition math to a fierce game of Spikeball.
