Content warning: Suicide
Dip your toes in.
Cold, cold, cold.
Water kisses your ankles and rushes back into the ocean.
Wade into the water.
Let tingles travel up your back.
Cup your elbows and look out at the waves.
Waist deep now.
Let the water hold you,
asking you to never leave.
Waves trickle up to your chin.
Your toes reluctantly part
with the sea floor.
Head under the water.
Salt stings your cheeks,
hair dances to the ocean’s rhythm.
Keep your head down.
Is it possible to sink?
Try to make yourself heavy.
Body stays under.
Someone starts to scream inside your head–
a stranger? No.
Still underwater.
This isn’t at all what you thought it would be.
It’s time to come up.
Kick, kick, kick.
Make your way to the moonlight, and
break the surface
Catch your breath.
Haven’t you missed it dearly?
Aren’t you glad to be alive?
