When I opened my lunch box,
I saw a sandwich and a juice box.
What I didn’t see,
Was the time my mom spent making it for me.
When I looked out of my window,
I saw the sun.
What I didn’t see,
Was my dad cleaning each window, one by one.
When my brothers ran around the house,
I complained that they were being too loud.
What I wish I had seen,
Was that they were just having fun.
When I went shopping with my dad,
I wanted to get every toy I saw.
What I didn’t see,
Were the things my dad did so he could see me happy.
When I was sick,
I slept a lot.
But while I slept,
Someone did all my chores I hadn’t done.
When I baked cookies,
I thought that was fun.
But oh boy,
That was a lot of cleanup for my mom.
When I look back now,
I should’ve seen in between the lines.
I wish I had seen past,
The things right in front of me.
