It’s April, with a plethora of different things anyone can do. As such, this playlist should cover everything someone would experience in the month of April.
“This Life” by Vampire Weekend: While you’re on spring break, there are a lot of things you could be doing, and one of them should be listening to this song. Reflecting on your year so far with one of the most important indie bands still working today should definitely help with that.
“Lifelike” by Porter Robinson: This song is the embodiment of the spring season. It just is. Very little further explanation is needed. Listen for yourself, and you’ll see why this ambient piece should show up in the dictionary when you search for the word “spring”.
“Riff Wraiths” by Lightning Bolt: April showers bring May flowers. But April showers in Ithaca can make you almost regret living here. Fight the raging thunderstorms with this noise rock song, which sounds exactly as if you were hit by thunder in the middle of a storm.
“The Bird Song” by King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard: Take advantage of the spring season to do something you might not have thought of before, like birdwatching. And do that while listening to this song. You really can’t go wrong pairing an activity with a song that matches it so well.
“The Final View” by Nujabes: As baseball season starts again, warm up, hone your skills, and chew some bubblegum with a beat made by one of the greatest to ever do it. Round one draft by the Yankees not included. Maybe the Mets.
“Big Yellow Taxi” by Joni Mitchell: Earth Day calls for awareness, action, and local communities to give their all to do their best to help our planet, as it’s needed more than ever. Do all of that while playing this folk-rock classic. For reasons nobody can decipher, the original isn’t on Spotify, so you’ll have to listen to the live version. Thankfully, it’s just as good.
“Sun Lips” by Black Moth Super Rainbow: Like thunderstorms, spring allergies are an unfortunate but inevitable part of April. While you’re lying on your couch with the allergies, listen to some indietronica to put your feelings into music.
“Houseplants” by Squid: After the rain falls, tending to your garden is a big priority. But while the rain falls, take the plants inside, put them in your favorite terracotta pot, and let them carry on with this post-punk song that’s sure to cover all the highs and lows of the growing season.
“Early Morning Breeze” by Dolly Parton: Is there any part of spring more enjoyable than waking up and soaking in the air? That’s up for you to decide, but when that morning air happens, couple it with this song to truly confirm to yourself that spring is here.
“I Will Always” by The Cranberries: Spending more time outdoors is always a goal during the beginning of the spring season, and camping is a great way to prove your love of the season. Right before you fall asleep, play this song and comfort yourself by spending a night in the woods of Upstate New York.
“Moment Of Hesitation” by Flying Lotus: If you’ve put off your spring cleaning for too long, play this song to give you the motivation to finally do it. This piece of nu jazz will almost certainly make you happy to wash your screen doors, dust your living room, and make all the beds in your house.
“Night Sky” by CHVRCHES: If you consider yourself a baker, picking strawberries and making a shortcake with them should be a must during April. After it’s finished and plated, play this cheery synthpop bop and just admire the spectacle you’ve made. Serve it to your family and loop the song if you want full gratification.
