The creature who follows
and the one who hides.
For the two of you
can never stand
side by side.
I call and I call
but you never come.
My back’s against the wall,
I can hear her cries
as she follows behind,
whispering lies
in my ears.
She keeps you away,
holds you at bay.
Yet I still beckon anyway.
Because when you’re near
there is less fear
and I have the world
in the palms of my hands
That feeling is fleeting,
and this I know,
yet if I can catch you,
I’ll let it grow.
But there she is creeping
in the back of my mind,
sticking to my fingers
and covering my eyes.
And I guess, for today,
she can have her way
because I’m getting tired
of fighting.
But someday, I’ll find you,
and when that day comes,
I’ll make sure to grab tightly
and never let go.
