You shed light on the darkness of my soul.
Your love is overpowering.
You cast out demons from my mind,
Opening pastures of meek sheep in their stead.
Your sheep are not weak, but strong in their trust.
The shepherd protects from spiritual want.
They may fall prey to the wolves by flesh,
But in soul may never be put to rest.
Your staff corrals my rebellious thoughts.
Your sling repels invaders.
When I wander away from the herd you come for me.
When I fall snared in a hunter’s pit you buy me back.
You suffer for me so that I may suffer too,
So that I may find joy in that suffering,
In glorifying your name.
So that I may walk with you forever,
Over nails and broken glass,
Over sharp rocks and harsh waters.
So that I may walk with you forever,
So that I may walk and find peace.
