After finishing freshman year, I had many opinions about my classes. Here’s a ranking on the classes I took last year and my experience with them. I’ll be excluding band because it’s not a class many people take, and I want others to compare their experience with my rankings. Teachers, don’t be offended: These rankings are not based on you; they are based on the physical classroom, the experience of the environment, and its content.
In sixth, and last, place is Honors French 2. I really enjoyed the environment of the class, but the students frequently made it distracting. The content itself isn’t what I find the most interest in, so it wasn’t always a class I looked forward to. I also have a pretty bad memory, so learning a new language isn’t one of my favorite things to do. The pace of learning was at times a little fast for me. However, I did like how straightforward things were. In the packets we would get, for example, the instructions were mostly clear. In the end, things went well. It’s a good class, I just didn’t find much interest in it, which puts it in last place.
In fifth place is English 9. This class was a very calm experience, and everything was pretty simple. I really liked some of the units, though others weren’t my favorites. I really liked how much time there was to work on an essay or an assignment in class, which was really helpful because I could balance my other classes’ homework. One problem was that, because it was my last period, many people (including me) were tired, so it was really hard to focus. It was a struggle for the class to stay engaged. . Although it was a low-stress class, the lack of engagement and interest among my peers puts it in fifth place.
In fourth place is Honors Geometry. If you know me, you might’ve heard me complain about this class, but after completing and reflecting on it, it was a pretty good class. My biggest problem was that it was my first period, when my brain was barely functioning, so it was really hard to take tests. The content itself was pretty hard, but it was really satisfying when I figured things out. Although it wasn’t my favorite, I enjoyed the struggle in a way.
In third place is PE. Some units had me dreading the class while others had me praying for an A day.. I really liked going to that class with my friends; I felt pretty free, and it was a time when I could talk with them. Some units were really fun, and it was a class with lots of laughter.
Second place is Global History 1. The content was mostly interesting; the only problem was that it was really difficult to learn things like geography because again, I don’t have the best memory. I really liked how the assignments were set up; they made learning easier. Overall, I just think this class was so much fun, and I loved learning about history.
First place goes to Biology! The content was easy for me to learn because I found a lot of interest in it. I would be excited to attend the class and I really enjoyed working on the assignments. There were many projects and labs that were hands-on which I really enjoyed. The pacing of this class was perfect and well-balanced. I think this was a really fun and enjoyable class.
Not everyone would have the same opinions of these classes, because we all have different interests. I personally think that in order for a class to be good, it needs to be interesting to you. Even if you’re not interested in a class, still try to have fun and do your best, it will be worth it! Freshman, focus on your own interests and freshman year classes will be so fun.
