Literary Issue FAQs

Who can submit to the Literary Issue?
Any current IHS student not on the Tattler Editorial Board can submit to the Literary Issue and be considered for prizes. Members of the Tattler Editorial Board can submit pieces, but they will not be considered for prizes.

How do I submit to the Literary Issue?
Fill out the Google Form in your inbox (one submission per form entry).

Can I submit work I submitted to a previous edition of The Tattler?
No.

Can I submit the same piece of work to multiple categories?
No.

Can I submit different pieces of work to multiple categories?
Yes.

Can I submit multiple entries to the same category?
Yes. However, you cannot win multiple prizes in the same category.

Can I submit something I made with others?
Yes, provided that you have their permission and credit them appropriately. If your piece is awarded a prize, contributors will split the prize equally.

Can I win multiple prizes?
If you submit multiple pieces of work that win in different categories, you may be awarded multiple prizes. However, you cannot win multiple prizes in the same category. 

Can I submit a piece that was made partially or fully by AI?
No. Attempting to submit a piece that was made partially or fully by AI is a violation of our Writer Integrity and AI Policies and will warrant the disqualification of that piece.

Will all submissions be published?
Yes, barring pieces that contain content that is hostile, harmful, or otherwise unsuitable for a high school publication. The Tattler Editorial Board reserves the right to withhold publication of any piece deemed inappropriate.

What are the prizes?
First-place winners will receive $50. Second-place winners will receive $20. Third-place winners will receive $10. All prizes will be given in the form of checks.

How will I know if I win?
Winners will be announced via email on the day of the Literary Issue’s publication (the first week of January).

Who will be judging our work?
The work will be judged by The Tattler Editorial Board using a thorough and holistic judging process. Members of the board are not eligible for prizes. All work is judged anonymously.
