Content warning: blood, death, guns, school shooting
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers
I’ll take them to my grave
But thoughts can’t stop your bullets
And god
has lost her will to save
Your sorries don’t make change
They only mask your indifference
For it is not your children
who must suffer your belligerence
A stag will start at the first gunshot
Try to run
But so suddenly stop
Collapsing and be left to rot
Without your first nor second thought
But stags don’t scream
as they’re chased down halls.
Their blood won’t spatter across school walls
Tainting the tattered A B C
As the rest are left with scars unseen
You send balloons and cards and notes
But they’re all hollow, thin, and broke
Like your resolve
As you send us hope
And sell a gun
While we try to cope
I’ve seen the names on fences
The gowns laid on empty chairs
You hugging the families
Taking pictures with their despair
You say it is no problem
“A gun can’t shoot without a hand”
But
I am scared
to live
When you see my life
As something you can take and give
I am tired of this fear
Tired of waiting for you to hear
Our cries of pain
For you’re too vain
to make the change
So
Keep
your thoughts and prayers
