Recently, the Met Gala took place on Monday, May 4. To those who aren’t familiar with the Met Gala, it is a charity event and fundraiser that is very exclusive and which many celebrities attend adorned in top notch fashion. This event takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in New York City. Each year a new theme is chosen, and this year the theme was “Costume Art.” For the most part, this event is very private other than the red carpet, where the guests show up in great outfits. So, here are some of my favorite ones from this year:
Naomi Osaka: A professional women’s tennis player, a fashion queen on and off the court. Her Met Gala outfit this year, designed by Robert Wun, was a representation of “the shedding of the skin.” Her first outfit at arrival was a voluminous and architectural white overcoat with red feathers seeping through. Then, she removed the white coat to reveal a stunning red gown that features over 659 thousand stitches. It was shimmering, and it showed a look inspired by blood, which was fit to her body. The full look was incredibly detailed and so beautiful.

Emma Chamberlain: The influencer stole the night with her dress. The dress was designed by Miguel Castro Freitas and was hand painted by Anna Deller-Yee, which took over forty hours to create. This dress was inspired by Vincent van Gogh and Edvard Munch, along with her family’s personal love of art. The dress looks like it was just painted on a canvas, or just a bunch of paint thrown on Chamberlain like she was the canvas. This dress was really cool to see and the design was extremely artistic with its wide array colors.

Doechii: The rapper wore a burgundy wrap dress designed by Marc Jacobs, showing off her beauty with flowing fabric and movement. Her astonishing outfit brought dark, feminine energy to the carpet. The full wrap around her body and her head, along with her makeup is such an iconic look, which is only highlighted by her jewelry and henna. Doechii made the decision to walk without traditional heels to both make a statement and feel more comfortable and grounded with herself. Overall the outfit was just gorgeous and very creative.

Hudson Williams: The actor from Heated Rivalry wore an outfit which broke the norms of male attire. His blue and black suit was designed by Balenciaga and directed by Pierpaolo Piccioli. The different intricate black designs on the suit really popped out and added pizazz, paying homage to Spanish matadors. The norms were broken through the train that he wore, which isn’t something that men would usually wear. One of the key elements of his look was his makeup, which was inspired by Black Swan. The makeup was really well done, and the blue and black eye look really completes the look. I personally really like this look, as I think it is important to see males wear something that is not just a suit and tie.

SZA: The famous singer wore a yellow dress that shined through the event. This dress was crafted with vintage fabrics, tulle, silk faille, and tapestries. The piece was designed by Emily Adams Bode Aujla, and it was inspired by the 1910s Art Nouveau movement and the Viennese design collective Wiener Werkstätte. The whole piece was so elegant, with bold yellow coloring and complementary details through the pink florals. I really liked the head piece as well, as it added more eyecatching visuals to the outfit. Overall, SZA showed up very detailed and very stunning.
