Left-handed
Your wrist curled, cradling your script
So careful not to smudge a single letter
You don’t notice the crescent of silver
Upon your
Palm
Sketching
Your strokes hover above the paper, tracing a careful path
Once
Twice
Then finally your pen meets page
And a world is born
Pin-Straight
One foot in front of the other
Taken so literally
You stalk along a single crack
In rain soaked
Concrete
Percussive
Over and over and over
You drum the beat of your pounding heart
into the
Linoleum
Rhythm unbroken
Cafe
The door clicks open
The word “closed” swings up, lingering in the open air
Before it crashes down
You’re winding your hair around a single finger
As you drift through the door
I
Look up, catching your eye
My stare flits down so quickly
Too quickly
How mortifying it would be
to be caught
