The Tattler has been telling the story of Ithaca High School for more than a century, but no two years of student journalism have looked exactly the same. As a new editorial board takes the reins this year, we’re bringing new priorities, new ideas, and a continued commitment to serving our readers.
How to Write for Us
Our writers’ meetings take place during Universal Lunch in J126 on the first Tuesday of each month. Attending them is a great opportunity to gather inspiration and ideas as well as to build connections with our team of editors.
If you want to get published in the ensuing issue, you have eleven days after the writers’ meeting to send in your article, poetry, art, or photography. Where to send your contribution? To the editor of the section you deem most appropriate. Those email addresses can be found on the inside cover of each issue or the “Tattler Staff” page on our website. Still unsure of where to send it? Contact the editor-in-chief, at editor@ihstattler.com, and you will be directed to the right place. One of our skilled editors will then spend a week workshopping your piece with you until it is finalized and can get sent off to publication.

Our website is growing as well. We now have a photography section where you can find our monthly photo galleries, which were once only available in hard copy, online.
We will also be utilizing our website to pump out more timely news. Previously, articles were only published on a monthly basis, preventing us from covering more current topics . Now, if you want to cover a school, local, national, or even international event that falls out of sync with our monthly publishing cycle, send it in, and we can get your article out on our website, as well as your headline on our Instagram, in a matter of days.
Student Photography on the Cover
The ultimate student photography spotlight is now on the cover! Imagine seeing your photo catching readers’ eyes all across Ithaca. If you have a high-resolution photo with appropriate dimensions, we’d love to see what you’ve captured. Email photo@ihstattler.com if you’d like your photo to be considered for a future cover.
Events
The third to last page from our back cover now features a list of the month’s events—ranging from writers’ meetings to sports games to community-wide festivals and more.
New Locations
You can now find The Tattler in several new locations around town: The Botanist, Odyssey Books, Buffalo Street Books, and Brookton’s Market, alongside our usual spots around Ithaca. Want to see The Tattler somewhere new? Let us know!
Staff Submissions
Staff, we want to encourage you to submit! While we are a team of high school students, we hope to serve a much broader community and audience, and our publication is strengthened by perspectives beyond our own. Your experiences, expertise, and unique point of view can challenge our thinking, introduce ideas we may not have considered, and offer our readers a deeper understanding of the issues that matter to our community. The instructions for submission are the same as for students. We hope you will consider it!

A letter to the editor is a chance to respond to something we’ve published, express your opinion, offer a new perspective, or spark meaningful discussion on issues that matter to you. Unlike other contributions, letters are specifically written as a response to the newspaper, its content, or a topic raised through its coverage.
