On March 12, District Superintendent Luvelle Brown announced his resignation. So did Ms. Hardesty, Mr. Trumble, Mr. Mitchell, and a number of other administrators. These resignations were part of a joint decision by the board to cut down on admins and replace all of them with one person: Jay Barnes. Considering Jay Barnes already does everything at IHS, this proposal was supported by the entire student and staff body. This will go into effect at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
Below, students share their experiences with Jay Barnes.
“I asked my counselor for my transcript, and he responded by telling me that college is stupid and that I’m a f****ng nerd. Thank god for Jay Barnes. He got me my transcript at 4 a.m. on a Sunday.” – Junie B. Jones, ‘23
“I told Luvelle Brown that I was being bullied, and he told me bullying makes us stronger. What happened to the Culture of Luve? Mr. Barnes personally confronted my bullies, and shut it down. He’s my personal hero” – Ramona Quimbey, ‘25
“I have OCD, but my grades are good. Taking tests in a room with other people is stressful. Maggie Shaw never responded to my emails. I sent 347 over the course of a week. Jay Barnes got me a 504 and saved my grades.” – Amelia Badelia, ‘24
“The vending machine was broken, and I was so, so hungry. I stood there for hours, while admins walked by and looked at me with pity. Dear Mr. Barnes eventually came over and kicked the machine until my Cheez-Its fell out. I’ll always remember how he saved me from hunger.” – Katniss Everdeen, ‘23
His salary will also be raised, by adding up all the salaries of the former administrators. This will add up to a whopping 4 million dollars. With this money, Jay Barnes will reportedly be buying a share of College Board. In the future, Jay Barnes may also be replacing school psychologists, counselors, and teachers. For now, he can be found in his office in H-Courtyard. In coming months, he will be relocating to the Welcome Center, where a Barnes shrine has been built. All hail Jay Barnes!
