With colder weather just around the corner, there is no better time to curl up in bed with some snacks and a good movie. Romantic comedies are by far the most comforting movies, so here are ten classic rom-coms you need to see before you die.
10 Things I Hate About You: Loosely based upon Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, 10 Things I Hate About You follows Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles), a beautiful but abrasive and antisocial high school girl. When Kat’s father makes a rule that her younger sister can’t date until Kat does, an elaborate plan is made to set Kat up with new student Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger). This touching movie has a relatable storyline and shows how sometimes one has to let their guard down for love.
When Harry Met Sally: This 1989 romcom follows Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) and Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) for multiple years to show the evolution of their back-and-forth relationship. As Harry and Sally grow closer, it is unclear if romance will ruin their friendship or if they are really meant to be. When Harry Met Sally is considered one of the funniest movies of all time, and is also recognized as one of the most culturally significant rom-coms.
Love Actually: While many people consider this a Christmas movie, Love Actually is a heart-warming classic that is arguably appropriate all year. Featuring many beloved actors including Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, and more, Love Actually features nine intertwined stories that each depict a different aspect of love.
Clueless: This bubbly 90’s rom-com is the perfect rewatchable movie to brighten up your day. Alicia Silverstone stars as Cher Herowitz, a glamorous and shallow highschool student, who is desperate to help people who don’t have her fabulous lifestyle, despite the disapproval of her ex-stepbrother Josh Lucas (Paul Rudd). Makeovers that go too far, matchmaking, and teenage love all begin to interfere with Cher’s perfect life in this funny coming of age story.
Crazy Rich Asians: Based on the Kevin Kwan novel of the same name, Crazy Rich Asians follows the story of Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) and her perfect boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding). When Rachel travels with Nick to Singapore to meet his family for the first time, she learns that Nick’s family is one of the wealthiest in Singapore, and she is suddenly thrust into a spotlight with certain expectations set for her. This dramatic rom-com is a modern classic and perfectly portrays the importance of family, as well as romance.
Set It Up: In this Netflix romcom, Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell star as Harper Moore and Charlie Young, two overworked assistants with overbearing bosses. After meeting by chance one night, Harper and Charlie devise a plan to set up their bosses as a ploy to soften them, but soon realize that their meddling has consequences.

William and Anna fall into a whirlwind romance as they fight to harmonize their vastly different lifestyles.

When exchange student Sandy unexpectedly attends the same high school as Danny, she realizes that the two of them are in very different cliques, as Danny is a greaser and Sandy is seen as a “good girl.” This lively musical is a must-watch classic about love against all odds.
13 Going on 30: 13 Going on 30 is a feel-good story about growing up and finding true love. Thirteen-year-old Jenna (Christa B. Allen) is desperate for a boyfriend and makes a birthday wish to be “thirty, flirty, and thriving.” In a fairytale turn of events, Jenna wakes up as a thirty year old fashion editor. Thirty year old Jenna, now played by Jennifer Garner, soon discovers the challenges of adulthood and turns to her childhood best friend Matty (Mark Ruffalo) for help. This movie is comforting with a humorous story, and it serves as the perfect reminder to not be in a rush to grow up.
My Best Friend’s Wedding: Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) and Michael O’Neil (Dermot Mulroney) are childhood best friends who vowed that they would get married when they turn twenty-eight. But just a few days after Julianne’s twenty-eighth birthday, Michael announces that he’s engaged.
