Now, it’s not quite midterm season yet, but as we make decent headway into the school year, I know I have certainly been locked in. It might just be me, but when I’m at home, I simply cannot get any work done. In honor of that, here is a list of my top study spots in Ithaca. If you’re lucky, you might spot me at some of these places.
Press Cafe: Now, I am very pretentious about coffee, so I can say that this is definitely not the best coffee spot in Ithaca. However, they do have a little work spot next to their cafe where you can sit and admire their plants while you start on that English essay you keep putting off.
Uris Library: As some might call “The Harry Potter Library,” this is an Ithaca hot spot. If you’re going to study here, I highly recommend doing it over the summer (get those college essays done early!) to avoid the fight for a study spot. Although, you might have to deal with tourist families and their loud kids coming to see the library in all its beauty.
Cornell Physical Sciences Building: This one is my secret spot. I’m sure it’s well known among college kids, but I have never seen another IHS student here. This place is fantastic because even when it’s busy, there’s a variety of places to get work done. From their fake library to their cafe, to their patio, you’re sure to find a spot.
Cornell Gardens: These gardens are fantastic for any occasion, not just studying. You could come here to picnic or simply to read. It’s also a good spot to cram for finals when the sun finally comes out. If pretty flowers can’t get you through those final push days, nothing can.
Alley Cat Cafe: This cafe is good for those who study best in a place with a lot of movement. While I do enjoy a good tea from their famous tea wall, the main reason people come to the Alley Cat Cafe is to see the cats. So there’s a lot of traffic and the cafe can get pretty crowded. If you’re someone who thrives on background noise to focus, this might be the spot for you. Don’t forget to reward yourself for all that hard work by playing with some adoptable kitties.
