The Fan Experience
For us in Ithaca, Cornell football is the ultimate Saturday vibe. Most people don’t even need to be sports experts to enjoy it. It all starts with the energy at Kite Hill and moves into the Crescent. The massive concrete stands make it feel like you’re in an NFL stadium. Being a fan is about the noise: the Big Red Marching Band blasting music and the student section losing their minds when Touchdown the Bear runs out. Whether it’s a sunny afternoon or an Ithaca snowstorm, it’s about the community, the snacks, and cheering for the home team in one of the oldest stadiums in the country.
Fan Fact: Schoellkopf Field was built in 1915, which means 111 years of Big Red spirit!
The Player: Behind the Helmet
While the fans are focused on the fun, the players are focused on the game. For a student-athlete at Cornell, game day is the final test of a brutal week. Under the helmet, they are locked in and aren’t hearing the noise from the stands; they’re listening for the quarterback’s signals and watching the offense. Game weeks mean harder practices, more film study, and a lot more pressure. After all that, representing Ithaca isn’t the easy part. For them, the field is more than just a place to play; it’s where all those hard workouts finally pay off in front of the whole town.
