Beware the Abbot Boys by Chelsea Ichaso
Last year, a girl was found dead on their property, burnt in a car they were supposed to fix. This year, another victim is found killed during a fire drill, The only clue: a picture of one of the Abbot brothers walking with her into the forest minutes before her death is discovered. A web of lies spreads from one member to another, all thinking the other is a murderer, and no one willing to come clean. This book, although follows a traditional mystery structure, had a unique twist that really set it apart. I thought the author captured the emotions of each character in a big jumble that made everyone an unreliable character.
The Obsession by Natasha Preston
Main character Connie is in a unique situation. A social media content creator, and Connie’s mother has been putting her and her sister under the scrutiny and eye of the media for years. Everything in their lives is online, their town, their road, and their address. When Connie’s sister and mother go to a college tour for twoweeks, Connie suspects she has a stalker. She gets followed from school, receives comments on social media, and soon girls around her age start to die. This book has been one of the scariest, nerve wrecking, and twisted plots I´ve read in the best way possible. True to Natash Preston’s signature style, this story ends with a brutal cliffhanger.
Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer
A plague sweeps across the kingdom, the only known cure is an expensive commodity. The poor die and the rich live. Outlaws Tessa and Wes scale the castle’s walls at night to steal and distribute the cure to everyone. The punishment, death by hanging. When Tessa is caught and brought to the King’s Justice, also known as Prince Corrick, they have to work together to ensure the kingdom doesn’t fall for the wrong hands.
The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco
Tea accidentally raises her brother, Fox, from the grave. This reveals that Tea is a Bone Witch, which is rare and feared across the kingdom. These witches are capable of raising the dead and controlling dark forces. Lady Mykaela, an experienced Bone Witch, takes Tea to the capital where she will be trained to become an asha. With a hint of romance, a lot of danger and wholesome friendships this book is a most read. In my opinion, Rin Chupeco created a truly one of a kind book. Each book in the series contains chapters from both the present and the future of Tea. This means you can read the normal font, finish the series, and then go read the italicized chapters and learn what happens next. She created this perfect blend without spoiling anything from each book, which is truly phenomenal.
