Have you ever wanted to perform in multiple popular musicals, but never got the chance to? Or maybe you want to see popular musicals but they’re not very accessible, or your local theatres haven’t put them on. Well I am so overjoyed to announce that the next IHS musical will be… Les Elphaba Hamilton in Chicago With the Six Heathers! Yes, you heard that right! Now here’s a little description of this new musical.
This is a fourteen hour show, and it has a storyline mixture between Wicked, Hamilton, Chicago, Les Miserables, Six, and Heathers! This show has six leads: Alexander Hamilton, Elphaba, Velma Kelly, Roxie Heart, Javert, and Veronica. The cast consists of sixty people! This show starts off with the iconic harmonies of the six queens from Six, the musical.
Each lead is fighting to determine who has the best show. In competition, they all try to perform their own show. As they are performing, there’s always something wrong, the music pauses at random moments, the monologue words change, the keys are different, and it just turns into chaos. In the end, they all realize that they weren’t meant to fight, they were all meant to unite. So, they all combine their musicals together and make compromises so that they all get what they want.
For auditions, you must have a full song ready, and a ten page long monologue memorized. We will accept everyone who auditions, but if there are not enough cast members, we will start scouting people from the school no matter whether they want to do it or not. Callbacks will take about two days, and we will call people back for the leads and even ensemble roles. If you don’t get called back, you shouldn’t be disappointed, but you should be ashamed because you couldn’t even get called back for an ensemble role.
Rehearsals will take around three weeks, and you are expected to fully memorise all of your lines in that time for the 14 hours of show. The dances are at the highest level as we will have Dance Moms dance teacher Abby Lee Miller choreograph the full show. Music should also be taken seriously as we have renowned singer and actor, Idina Menzel, running music rehearsals. On the weekdays we will have rehearsal from 4:30 pm to 1 am, and on the weekend, rehearsals are from 6 am to 10 pm. During tech week you are expected to be there for all 24 hours every day (a grand total of 120 hours). You will be excused from your classes.
This performance is in Kulp Auditorium. Tickets will be fifty dollars, and you will be able to purchase them at the door or online. All teachers and students must attend. There will be one thirty second intermission because we all need to use the bathroom at some point. If you fall asleep during the show you will be escorted out and will have to pay a fine of one hundred dollars as it is very disrespectful to the performers. Recording is not prohibited. This will be a Broadway worthy show, and you should treat it as a Broadway show.
We are very excited to see all of the auditions and very excited to see how this show comes together!
